My last semester at UofM was the Fall 2003.  This marked 10.5 years at Michigan and 5.5 years of graduate school.  Believe it or not, 5-6 years is par for the course when getting a Ph.D.  I earned a BSE in Aerospace Engineering and a BSE in Mechanical Engineering in May 1998.  My MSE in Aerospace Engineering followed in 2000, at which time I also took preliminary examinations for the Ph.D. program.  2000-2001 was my first year as a doctoral candidate, and I  finished up my Ph.D. requirements as of January 2004.
